I hack taboos, most of them anyway. I make art about them, usually with textiles, common items around the house, sometimes with a laser cutter, trying for humor if I can get it.
my art slightly crosses over into that NSFW borderline but really, I think we should be drawing the line a little differently - for most of it, anyway. my favorite story here shows you what I mean. take a look around for yourself and tell me what you think.
how can we possibly live the life that's meant for us if we have to hide so much? body parts, feelings, emotions, sexual orientations ... oh, that's not even a start.
I dream of the day when the stuff I make is old hat, just garnering a chuckle here 'n there, not causing people to shriek in minor terror, "No, don't show me your crochet!" or lose their breath laughing hysterically.
till then, I will keep making this stuff that I think should be ordinary - at least it helps make my life feel like the life that was meant for me - and maybe one day it will be ordinary? maybe then we can more heartily address more impactful issues.
