The sideways figure 8. I learned this move at yoga class last night. I've been fighting headaches for years, and of late I've been able to do quite a bit of yoga consistently and with good teachers, and I've accumulated a healthy set of enjoyable poses that really fix my neck and shoulders up good. And last night came another exercise exactly for this.
We all sat there cross-legged, hands on knees, you know the pose -- like oh we're so smart and centered, the world can't knock us around. Ok, well, the instructor suggests making a sideways figure eight motion -- like an infinity symbol -- with our noses. I'm telling ya, you can't do that if your shoulders are tense. Mine just kept falling away. It was amazing.
So I went into jury duty this morning and we were talking about how hard it is to sit still and listen for hours and how our bodies get sore in different places. I then told them about this move and demonstrated it. "You look like you're high!" they laughed. But you know, at the first break, two of them admitted to ever so slightly trying it in the courtroom.
Our instructor suggested that we take our yoga with us. I wonder if this is what she meant.
